Frequently Asked Questions for CAIIB Exam

There are four compulsory papers + one elective paper.
Compulsory papers are:
Paper-1: Advanced Bank Management
Paper-2: Bank Financial Management
Paper-3: Advanced Business and Financial Management
Paper-4: Banking Regulation and Business Law

There are 5 options:

1. Rural Banking may be opted by candidates who acquired their academic qualification related to rural economy or who are working in the rural environment, since they will be able to relate the working, in many areas, to the syllabus of exam.
2. Human Resources Management may be opted by the candidates who have acquired special HRM skills as part of their academic qualification or they are working in the HRM department of their institutions. It may be suitable for those students also who worked hard to understand HRM Module in Advanced Bank Management paper, since lot many basic concepts of HRM are covered there.
3. Information Technology & Digital Banking – This may be suitable for the candidates who achieved success in the academic qualification related to information technology. Those who have been recruited by banks as IT specialists or those who are working in IT department of banks can also opt for this paper.
4. Risk Management : This paper is suitable for candidates who have been working in risk management departments of their banks. This paper will be very very relevant for those candidates who have gained good confidence in Module B, C and D of Banking Financial Management paper, because more than 50% syllabus of these papers is common. A good preparation of BFM will make the task of handling Risk Management paper, easy.
5. Central Banking – This paper is particular suitable for the candidates working in offices of regulators.

Any banker who has completed the JAIIB exam or Diploma in Banking and Finance, can take this exam.

There is no validity period. The certification by IIBF for CAIIB has a lifetime validity.

Normally, the difficulty level of question can be treated as Moderate. To answer the questions correctly, proper understanding of concepts and adequate practice from question bank is required.

There may be 7-10 case studies. Each case study generally contains 3-5 questions. To solve case studies, concept and application of concept is important. Focus should be on practice after concept clarity

Level of CAIIB exam is tougher than JAIIB exam. For making it sure to pass the exam in single attempt, preparation of 4-5 months is required. If you have only one month, instead of appearing in all papers, appear in one or two papers.

Candidates get 5 attempts for completion of the CAIIB exam within a maximum period of 3 years (whichever is earlier).

Candidate will have to re-enrol in the course, by paying full fee again.

Best strategy would be to take 2 or 3 papers at a time, depending upon time available.

A study of about 1 hour per day on average for each paper, on regular basis for 4-5 months will give you the confidence to pass the exam.

In Sept 2022, IIBF had indicated that negative marking shall become applicable. But the decision is yet to be implemented. Hence at present, the negative marking rule is not applicable

There are 2 options.
Option-1
Candidate should score a minimum 50 marks out of 100 to pass.
Option-2
Candidates who appear in all the 5 papers in a single attempt must obtain min 45 marks in each subject and a total of 50% (i.e. 250 marks) in all papers as aggregate score.

Most of the public sector banks, give some extra weight to those candidates who have completed CAIIB exam. It can be said that candidates with CAIIB certification, have better chances of being promoted.

Presently, the candidates are entitled to 2 special increments for passing CAIIB in addition to one increment for passing JAIIB

Yes. The candidates can use battery operated portable calculator which may be of any type up to 6 functions, 12 digits.

Those candidates who had prepared themselves well for CAIIB exam, acquires very valuable knowledge in the areas relating to operational banking as well as advanced banking concepts. Based on this, their chances for getting posted in specialized area like credit management, risk management, foreign exchange, compliance etc. improve.

4th Attempt Rs. 1,300/-

FIRST CLASS means securing 60% or more in aggregate in the first physical attempt.

DISTINCTION means security 70% or more in aggregate and 60% or more in each paper.

CAIIB exam like JAIIB, is held in English as well as Hindi. Candidate has to choose at the time of enrollment. Subsequently, change in not possible

The time may differ from candidate to candidate depending upon his academic background and his experience in the bank, in specific areas. But in general each paper would require not less than one hour per day for period of about 5 months.

It is held twice in a year (Jun and Nov). Exam is on weekends.
